01 / what it does
One number per plan. Nothing hidden in it.
Enter your monthly revenue and order count. The calculator works out the total monthly cost of Shopify Basic, Grow and Advanced, and shows how much of it is subscription, how much is credit card processing, and how much is Shopify's transaction fee.
It marks the cheapest Shopify plan for your numbers and gives the revenue at which upgrading starts to save money. Switch between Shopify Payments and a third-party payment provider to see what the choice of gateway costs.
Every rate can be edited, so it works for any country or negotiated deal.
02 / why it matters
The plan price is the small part.
Shopify pricing looks like a subscription. For most stores the larger cost is the percentage taken from every order, and that percentage depends on the plan.
A store that has grown on Basic can be paying more in Shopify transaction fees than the upgrade to the next plan would cost. A store that upgraded early can be paying for a rate it does not sell enough to use.
Both are margin lost to a setting nobody revisited.
Shopify transaction fees explainedhow Shopify fees are made up
Subscription
The fixed monthly price of the plan: Basic, Grow or Advanced. Paying yearly lowers the monthly figure.
Card processing fees
On Shopify Payments, every online order costs a percentage of the sale plus a fixed fee. The percentage drops as the plan goes up.
Third-party transaction fees
Use an external payment provider such as PayPal or Stripe and Shopify adds its own transaction fee on top of what that provider charges.
03 / questions
Shopify fees, answered.
How much does Shopify charge per sale?
With Shopify Payments, each online card sale costs a percentage of the order plus a fixed fee per transaction. The percentage is highest on Basic and falls on Grow and Advanced. The rates this Shopify fee calculator uses are listed in its rates table, and you can change them to match your store.
What is the Shopify third-party transaction fee?
It is an extra percentage Shopify charges on every order when you take payment through an external gateway instead of Shopify Payments. You pay it in addition to the gateway's own processing fee, which is why a third-party provider usually costs more overall.
When is it worth upgrading my Shopify plan?
When the lower card rate saves more than the higher subscription costs. That point depends on your monthly revenue and average order value. The calculator works out the break-even revenue between Basic, Grow and Advanced for your numbers.
Does this include Shopify Plus?
No. Shopify Plus pricing and card rates are negotiated per merchant, so there is no standard figure to compare. If you have a Plus quote, enter its price and rates in the rates table against any plan.
Which Shopify costs are not included?
Apps, themes, currency conversion, surcharges on international or premium cards, chargebacks, shipping labels, point-of-sale hardware and tax. The calculator covers plan pricing and payment fees on online orders only.
Is my sales data stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved.
beyond the fees
The fees are the visible cost.
The larger one is usually behind the storefront: orders, payouts, inventory and accounting reconciled by hand.
